SANA Call for Papers

2005 AAA Annual Meeting

The Society for the Anthropology of North America is seeking submissions for the 2005 Meetings of the American Anthropological Association. We encourage submissions by AAA members that contribute to the ethnography and theory of North America, including the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Submissions may be in the form of organized sessions, individual papers, posters, workshops, or roundtables. SANA consistently draws excellent submissions, and its panels have a high acceptance rate relative to those submitted through larger sections.

The theme selected by the AAA for the 2005 Meetings is "Bringing the Past into the Present." We encourage submissions that engage aspects of the theme, although we do not require it. The call for papers encourages us to explore how anthropological knowledge from the past, about the past, and from the four fields can be brought to bear on contemporary social problems in order to work toward better futures. As always, SANA encourages submissions that advance the scholarship of North America as an area. This includes anthropological work from the four fields concerning Canada, the United States, and Mexico. We are also interested in contributions that highlight the peoples, processes, and ideologies connecting its various locales.

Organized Sessions, Individual Papers, Posters, Workshops and Roundtables

All proposals must be submitted by April 1 and should be submitted directly to the AAA via the on-line forms provided by the AAA. These forms, as well as detailed guidelines and procedures for submissions, can be found on their website http://www.aaanet.org

Invited sessions will be selected by committee prior to the AAA submission deadline. If you are interested in submitting an organized panel to be reviewed for possible invited status, please email the title, an abstract of the session and a complete list of individual paper titles and abstracts to Molly Doane, SANA Program Chair, by March 1. Sessions applying for invited status will be notified of their status by March 15, and participants will be required to proceed with the AAA registration procedure by April 1.
